Lyon: "Turn the page on brutal ecology," exults the opposition after the vote on the abolition of ZFEs

Following the vote in the National Assembly in favour of the abolition of ZFEs in France, including in Lyon, the opposition to the ecologists says it hopes for an alternative to this system.
" Victory ," many right-wing elected officials proclaimed the day after the National Assembly's vote on the abolition of Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in France. Among them was Gilles Gascon, the LR mayor of Saint-Priest and president of the La Métro Positive group. In a press release published this Friday, May 30, the three opposition groups La Métro Positive, Inventer la Métropole de demain, and Synergies Élus et Citoyens once again criticized the Lyon Metropolis.
VICTORY! Years of work rewarded! Let's not pit people against each other. Ecology is built WITH, not WITHOUT, the working classes! https://t.co/yhu1lZdWno

" We have always come up against a majority led by ecologist elected officials guided by such dogmatism that they refuse any discussion or relaxation ," they write, deploring a ZFE " imposed without real consultation " or even a " ZFE which penalizes the poorest ."

A speech shared on Thursday, May 29, by the Macronist camp and its leader in Lyon, Thomas Rudigoz, who notably point to the extension to Crit'Air 2 scheduled for January 1, 2028. As a reminder, since the beginning of 2025, Crit'Air 3 vehicles were theoretically banned in the ZFE. " This sectarianism punishes the least advantaged French people, those who depend most on their cars to live, work, or get medical care ," believes the Renaissance group.
Lyon's environmentalists have also reacted . A vote described as " revolting " by Bruno Bernard, president of the Lyon Metropolitan Area, and which is "against health" according to Grégory Doucet, mayor of Lyon. On the right, it is now believed that " sooner or later it will be necessary to undertake ambitious efforts to improve air quality ," while rejecting " the ecology of injunctions ."
Populism is winning over air pollution. When we ask for funding to implement alternatives, we are refused.
